Zara's Journey from a Refugee Camp to Space
Picture Book
Zara is a very intelligent and hardworking girl who loves the stars, moon, planets and outer space. Her parents could only afford to send one of three Children to school and chose Zakary, Zara's younger brother due to cultural reasons.
Their Community- Kwoi was attacked and they had to be placed in a Refugee Camp. Find out how that started Zara's Journey to her dreams and Outer Space.
This Book is dedicated to the victims of Gender Inequality, Insecurity, kidnapping in schools and violence especially on girls and vulnerable populations. Zara's story is inspired by some true events as well as the Chibok invasion which started the #BringBackOurGirls viral campaign in 2014.
With this book and our programs at Books-By-Uchechi/Books-By-Uchechi Foundation, I seek to promote Girl-Child Education, Women Empowerment, Girls in STEM (science Technology, Engineering and Maths), Space Travel amongst others.
I am committed to continue writing Africa-inspired books to tell rich African stories that are often overlooked. In turn, doing this will increase the diversity of books available to kids around the world. Studies have shown that the child's self esteem is boosted when they read books with characters that look like them, bear their names, live in their cities, hail from their hometowns and have shared experiences.
